Dubai has once again emerged victorious, reclaiming its title as the No. 1 global destination in the prestigious 2024 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. In this article, we’ll break down the numbers and reveal how the city has solidified its status as the ultimate travel hotspot.

Recent tourism figures underscore Dubai’s continued prominence as a global destination. In the first half of 2023, Dubai surpassed its pre-pandemic tourism levels, hosting 8.55 million visitors compared to 8.36 million in the corresponding period of 2019. 

In fact, Dubai’s hospitality sector has experienced significant growth, with the number of hotels increasing from 714 in 2019 to 810 in 2023. Correspondingly, the available hotel rooms surged from 118,345 in the first half of 2019 to 148,689 this year. Noteworthy is the increase in the average length of stay for guests, rising from 3.5 nights in 2019 to 3.9 nights in the first half of 2023. Dubai’s hotel occupancy rate, standing at an impressive 78% in the first six months of 2023, positions it among the highest globally.

Key insights from Dubai’s tourism statistics in 2023, sourced from research by the GMI Team, reveal that a total of 15.37 million individuals visited Dubai between January and November 2023. India emerged as the leading contributor, with 2.0 million visitors during January–October 2023, underscoring Dubai’s broad international appeal.

Breaking down the numbers, Dubai welcomed 8.55 million international visitors in the initial half of 2023 alone, with Q1 2023 accounting for 4.67 million visitors, Q2 2023 for 3.88 million, and Q3 2023 for 3.85 million. India remained a significant source of visitors, contributing 612,000 visitors in Q1 2023.

The positive momentum from 2022 persisted, with Dubai witnessing a remarkable increase of 7.08 million visitors, marking a substantial 97% rise from 2021. The year-end of 2022 saw Dubai offering accommodation through 804 hotels, providing a total of 146,496 rooms, illustrating the city’s commitment to meeting the escalating demand from its growing number of visitors.

Highlighting Dubai’s appeal across various budget ranges, the average daily rate for a hotel room in the city stands at 536 AED. In 2022, India played a pivotal role, contributing 1.8 million visitors, while the GCC and Western Europe emerged as the two regions contributing the highest percentage of visitors, each accounting for 21%.
