“Enter the next digital universe,” says the tagline for the 42nd edition of GITEX Global, currently being held in Dubai. One of the most prominent tech shows in the world, GITEX brings together seven communities of tech enterprises, governments, start-ups, investors, coders, academia, and youth to experience the most spectacular tech transformations.

This year, the event celebrates its 42nd edition with technology that is governing the present and shaping the future of mankind. This makes it one of the most important platforms to visit and follow.

Many UAE veterans would agree that the event has grown over the years to become one of the world’s largest technology exhibits.

In a Twitter announcement made before the start of GITEX, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said that the event has made the emirate a key technology centre, adding, “GITEX Global, which launched in 1981, has put Dubai on the global technology map and put technology at the top of Dubai’s priorities.”

This year, taking the level a notch above, the event presents a comprehensive showcase of technologies like Metaverse, Artificial Intelligence, Web 3.0, Sustainability, Quantum Computing, 5G, Cloud, Blockchain, and Future Mobility, creating a window into the future.

From a host of robots dotting the event to massive 3D talking heads, flying cars, and autonomous taxi prototypes, the event is a haven for all things technology and innovation.

The event goes a bit deeper this year with ample discussions being hosted and many companies showcasing the business side of technology in order to encourage and empower new start-ups to contribute to the world economy.

I visited the event as a guest speaker for one such panel discussion about investor viewpoints on the first day of GITEX. The discussion aimed to provide SMEs and new businesses with ideas for attracting investment and making a meaningful contribution to a better and happier future by understanding investors and their needs. This was part of North Star Dubai, one of the region’s largest start-up events, that is hosting the biggest unicorn meetup of the year in Dubai — with 35 unicorns from 15 countries exploring opportunities.

Overall, the event presents an implausible networking platform that seeks to enable knowledge exchange and aid business empowerment. It is also a showcase of where Dubai and the UAE stand in terms of the acceptability of technology and innovation as an essential part of the future.
