Over the years, many have attempted to condense the essence and purpose of artificial intelligence (AI), but few have succeeded. The predictions come from Ray Kurzweil, the famed American inventor and futurist, who says, “AI will reach human levels by around 2029. Follow that out further to, say, 2045, and we will have multiplied the intelligence, the human biological machine intelligence of our civilisation a billion-fold.”
The quote encapsulates the impact AI stands to have on the world and the fact of how important, or rather unavoidable, it is for the countries and governments around the world to recognise it.
Amid much speculation, well on its path to becoming a leader in this new technology, guided by its extraordinary leaders, is the comparatively younger nation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The country is chasing clear aims set by its visionary leadership when it comes to technology and its offshoots like AI, machine learning, big data, and cryptocurrencies.

While many countries around the world are still planning on beginning their voyage towards adopting and exploring this technology, in the UAE, the foundation has been laid, a good number of well-thought-out plans have been put in place, and the march has already started towards defining the future of AI and weaving a happy, prosperous society based on the power and potential of it. The UAE, through its AI Strategy, the first AI University, and the appointment of the first AI Minister in the world, has set a clear goal to become the world leader in AI by 2031.
In the words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, “We want the UAE to become the world’s most prepared country for artificial intelligence.”
Add to that the meetings for the UAE Council for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transactions, as well as the alignment of government and private sector operations with the overarching AI Strategy; all of this helps the UAE strengthen its AI foundation and prepare for a future in which the technology is used to bring about transformative changes in education, healthcare, the economy, government development, and community happiness.
In this context, the upcoming World AI Show and Awards, being held under the patronage of the Private Office of Sheikh Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Maktoum on May 25th and 26th, 2022, will provide a rare window into the world of AI in the UAE and across the globe and gather the best professionals and leaders to talk about the ongoing development in the sector and its future. Aligned with the UAE’s National Innovation Strategy and AI Strategy 2031, the show aims to explore the future prospects of innovations in the global AI landscape.
