A preparation for the future: ‘Principles Of 50’ charts out a progressive roadmap for the UAE

Today, in a world where the ‘present’ is given precedence over the past and future, the UAE stands tall, forward-looking and prepared, as an example. The union of seven Emirates 50 years ago was the first step in the direction of exemplary leadership, an innovative economy, and a visionary life for inhabitants of a little-known land. Who would have thought five decades ago that 2nd December 1971 would mark the beginning of a journey that the entire world would one day draw inspiration from?

However, unlike what most of the world assumes, it is not the UAE’s journey of 50 years that is extraordinary, it is the fact that, under the direction of its leadership, the country is ahead of the time and plans for the future well in advance.

Way before the future is physically in sight, it is made clear what is expected of each contributing party – right from the government departments to the businesses and the residents. Here, the goals are set that not only define the end result or the final destination, but also chalk out the clear path to reach them. And thus starts a collective march towards seemingly preposterous objectives.

That is how the UAE has surpassed all expectations and emerged as a globally recognised hub for all things grand and exquisite.

In this context, 2021 is an important year for the UAE and is expected to prove an imperative milestone for the country. One, it is the 50th year of its foundation. Two, it is the year the country hosts the coveted Dubai Expo 2020 after emerging strong from the ongoing pandemic. Setting the tone right, this week, the leaders of the UAE announced 10 principles that will shape the UAE’s future over the next 50 years.

Yesterday, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, jointly unveiled an official document titled ‘Principles of the 50. Launched under the guidance of the UAE President, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the 10 principles, which all government agencies and entities must adhere to, will be used as guidelines for all decisions as authorities strive to implement them in their frameworks and strategies.

HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was quoted saying in an official statement, “Our sole, abiding mission is to provide the best possible life for the citizens and residents of the UAE. The economy will lead the UAE’s path for the next 50 years, with a political approach that is based on peace and dialogue. The upcoming phase will see comprehensive and balanced development of all the UAE’s regions and sectors.”

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “The UAE is one destination, one economy, one flag, one leader, and over the next 50 years, everyone will work as one team to achieve our goals. Our values during the next 50 years will remain as set down by the founders to be the best, most noble and most generous people. “

In his tweet about the official announcement of this document, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said, “As directed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and discussed with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE announces the ‘Principles of the 50’ which paves the strategic roadmap for the country’s new era of political, economic, and social development.”

As an enabler of all things innovative, a supporter of businesses, and an advocate of a stronger economy, we, at the Seed Group and the Private Office of Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed Al Maktoum, are looking forward to the next 50 years as the country sets out this ambitious plan. This announcement has filled us with immense pride and motivation to carry on the legacy of our forefathers – the legacy of growth, development, success, and, most importantly, happiness.
