The marine industry has continually welcomed innovation to meet modern demands and adapt to the unique conditions of regions like the MENA. The environment is generally characterised by arid desert climates, with high salinity, humidity, and extreme sea surface temperatures along its coasts.
In particular, the UAE’s coastal conditions demand creative, functional, and resilient design solutions. Coupled with the nation’s increasing focus on sustainability, these factors present new opportunities for marine projects to incorporate energy-efficient systems, renewable energy sources, and smart technologies. Cost efficiency, durability, and sustainability together encourage developers and manufacturers to design practical, future-ready solutions.
To realise these opportunities, collaboration with industry leaders who bring multidisciplinary expertise and a passion for innovation is key. Such partnerships ensure that the challenges of coastal infrastructure and industrial projects are met with comprehensive, forward-thinking solutions.
Backed by decades of engineering and design expertise, AICOM — a strategic partner of Seed Group, company of The Private Office of Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed Al Maktoum — is collaborating with DIMC, the UAE’s renowned marina and watersports hub, on a feasibility study for a cutting-edge boat factory in Dubai. The project is aimed at evaluating the potential for producing locally built, high-quality boats for export, with the USA identified as the initial target market.
The partnership highlights AICOM’s ability to deliver innovative, eco-focused, and operationally efficient solutions. At the same time, it reflects DIMC’s commitment to addressing the challenges of the UAE’s coastal environment while aligning with the UAE National Agenda, which prioritises sustainable infrastructure and environmental stewardship.
Drawing from its extensive track record in designing real estate, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure, AICOM brings a holistic and forward-looking approach to the feasibility study. The company aims to ensure an optimal product–market fit by aligning DIMC’s designs with global industry demands and establishing resilient operational models.
Regular biweekly consultations with DIMC are being held to ensure clear goal-setting and risk management. Notably, AICOM’s prior work in the GCC region enables it to tailor designs to local conditions by incorporating durable materials and optimally scaled utilities, ensuring long-term functionality in the UAE’s coastal environment.
The study is being carried out in stages, with the first already completed and delivering valuable insights. This included market assessments, product positioning strategies, and preliminary logistics recommendations. The next stage is currently in progress and is scheduled to conclude by the end of September.
AICOM’s involvement extends beyond the study itself, as the company is furnishing DIMC with guidance that will shape future investment decisions. It is also evaluating distribution and operational models while outlining a solid business plan for subsequent implementation. These contributions are helping to build a strong foundation for Dubai’s long-term marine ambitions.
The project is designed to integrate sustainable and innovative practices, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency, smart management systems, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence. AICOM’s dedicated sustainability team is overseeing these efforts, ensuring compliance with the UAE’s environmental objectives.
To complement its internal expertise, AICOM is also collaborating with external specialists, bringing together a multidisciplinary team capable of addressing the project’s complex requirements. This combined expertise ensures that the feasibility study not only delivers technical and operational recommendations but also incorporates forward-looking solutions that anticipate future industry needs.
With the first stage completed and the next already in motion, the initiative is reinforcing both organisations’ positions as leaders in marine innovation. For AICOM, the project highlights its ability to deliver strategic, future-focused solutions in the MENA region. For Dubai, it reflects the emirate’s ambition to strengthen its role as a premier destination for watersports and a global hub for marine innovation.
As the feasibility study advances, it embodies the UAE’s broader vision: advancing industries with sustainable, innovative, and globally competitive solutions.
