A crisis like the Covid-19 pandemic is the true test of any nation’s leadership. In the months to come, what will make any nation stand out is how fast its leaders can turnaround the economic fortunes and bring the life of citizens back to normal.
I am proud to say that the UAE’s dynamic leadership has shown steely resolve and made pragmatic policies that are helping us to rebound and overcome the challenges on all fronts, quicker than expected.
The recent pledge of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that the UAE would be the fastest country to recover from the perils of Covid-19 pandemic and will begin next year with a number of major new projects is the reflection of the unwavering determination with which our leadership is on the job for a speedy recovery.
The successful organisation of Gitex with the in-person participation of over 1,200 exhibitors from 60 countries clearly shows that the UAE is ready to drive the global technology industry and leverage the best of the digital era to create a closely-knit tech-driven world in the post-Covid times.
Our futuristic leaders envision making the UAE a world leader in artificial intelligence by 2031. Being the first country to set up the Ministry of State for Digital Economy, AI, and Remote Working Applications, the UAE has taken giant strides in creating a healthy digital ecosystem for businesses, citizens, and governments alike.
It is for this reason that the UAE was digitally well-prepared to ensure the continuity of economic activities during the Covid-induced lockdowns around the world. The digital economy’s contribution in the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019-20 was 4.3 percent, and efforts are on to double the figure. The increased focus on smart applications, data analytics, remote working, and tech-driven business solutions and supply chains to build a strong digital economy will make the UAE a world leader in digital transformation.
We, at the Seed Group, are also making a significant contribution to the national AI vision by forging strategic alliances with leading global technology companies representing diverse regions in the domain of retail and wholesale, education, healthcare, oil and gas, and financial services sectors, among many others.
Such collective efforts coupled with the right leadership will soon make the UAE a top digital force to reckon with on the global map.
