Talking GITEX with Hisham Al Gurg, CEO, Seed Group and The Private Office of Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed Al Maktoum
It’s been almost a year since countries around the globe started imposing lockdowns to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. But, like always, Dubai is open for business.
In fact, Dubai is all the more welcoming to new start-ups and entrepreneurs and determined to act as a springboard for innovative ideas that address future problems and cater to a global audience.
Seeing our much-awaited annual tech extravaganza GITEX Technology Week happening successfully live in-person adds tonnes to our confidence. GITEX, which is currently hosting more than 200 active investors and 1,200 innovative tech exhibitors from over 60 countries, clearly reinforces the world’s faith in our able leaders and the government.
However, this year is different. The technologies being showcased, the companies participating, and the organisers – all have one focus – Covid-19 related challenges and the need for collective and effective efforts on the road to recovery.
And rightfully so – the pandemic has heightened the need for more courageous, more prompt and more effective decisions around technologies and their responsible wider adoption. Various innovations – such as flying taxis and humanised robots – that apparently seemed distant a year ago, are already up and running and being showcased at the GITEX.
As the companies converge in Dubai, I cannot help but state that it is an uplifting and encouraging sight to see so much happening in the tech space. GITEX is a reflection of the growing and expanding tech-driven entrepreneurial space in Dubai and a testament to the fact that if there is a city in the world that is acting as a fertile ground to support small and medium businesses and start-ups in technology, artificial intelligence, FinTech, and blockchain landscape, it is Dubai.
This year’s GITEX is acting as an enabling platform for companies to network, showcase, and learn strategies and perspectives relevant to the post-Covid world. Of all, in today’s world it is imperative for companies to network, make useful connections, and foster empowering relationships – an area of expertise that the Seed Group is proud to have excelled in since its inception in 2004.
Over the past years, we have seen how the right guidance and direction in terms of networking play a key role in the success of any company, especially in a culturally diverse market like the UAE and the Middle East.
It is for this reason that seeing so many flourishing and succeeding companies and ideas in tech-space makes us proud, as it reflects our efforts in the direction of making Dubai the most entrepreneurship-friendly and digitally advanced city in the world.
We look forward to a fruitful GITEX this year, and in the years to come.
